In the near future, an ominous red star suddenly appears in the sky. Its presence is about to bring about the extinction of all life on Earth.

The unified government proposes an evacuation project to take all of mankind into space, but in order to make the seemingly impossible project a reality, ‘felixes’ are brought into the world. Engineered to be highly intelligent with perpetual youth and longevity, the genetically modified superhuman felixes stand as humanity’s only hope for survival.

Sion, the most gifted of the felixes, has been kept in a research facility built on a solitary island for the past hundred years. Her sole purpose, saving all of humanity. Ryou Haruna, a soldier from the Earth’s unified government is sent to watch over Sion, who desperately seeks freedom from the military that’s imprisoning her.

Earth’s last love story is about to begin. Eden tosses aside the traditional sprite and talking heads conventions used by many visual novels and instead employs a far more cinematic approach consisting of almost all event illustrations. Told using a widescreen resolution of x , eden promises a play-experience more akin to enjoying a movie than reading a book. We hope that this new approach to the visual novel medium provides a much more enjoyable experience for everyone.

Mature Content Description The developers describe the content like this: – Close combat fights and depictions of deadly weapons in use. The plot involves a squad of four law enforcement agents investigating the disappearances of people by working their way downwards through layers of a towering mega-city. Project Eden’s gameplay emphasises puzzle-solving, requiring the player or players to control each of the four characters and use their individual abilities to make progress.

A single player can control any one of the characters, and jump between them at will or up to four players can play simultaneously as different members of the team. The game starts with Urban Protection Agency agents Carter, Andre, Minoko and Amber heading below city limits to find two technicians missing from the Real Meat Company a corporation that ironically produces synthetic meat.

The suspicions of the team revolve around a local and dangerous gang named The Death Heads. The UPA team tracks the gang down to their base in St. Lucia’s Church; but on their way, the gang members and many animals also start mutating into strange creatures. Clearing their way through the Church, battling the mutants, the UPA Team finally get close to the technicians, only to see them being taken far below city limits, possibly to ground zero the term used for the ground level of the earth itself.

The UPA Control instructs the UPA Team to recover a creature, a live one, for analysis; which shows that it has been a regular dog which had been tampered with using an old Gene splicer this hints at the fact that genetic technology has advanced greatly. The analysis also reveals that the creatures they have been attacked by are being controlled by a signal; which is their next job, to both find and if possible, recover the technicians, and locate the source of the signal.

On their way the UPA Team encounter little girls who are blonde, wear a red dress and call themselves Lucy. After some talk they mutate into dangerous beasts.

Minoko, while going to another sector of the city by a high-speed railcar , mentions that she once had a sister named Lucy, but that Lucy had died due to a genetic illness she and their mother suffered from. As they continue, the team starts to question if Minoko’s family was involved in their situation. The train crashes before reaching its destination, and leaves Minoko trapped in by a group of cannibals.

Upon their arrival, Carter asks Control to check out Minoko’s father, Dr. Joseph Molenski, who was once a skilled technician and a biological engineer, and who was sacked from Real Meat for stealing machinery for his own research. After traversing a former zoo that is now inhabited by cannibals and mutants, the team arrive at Ground Zero, the nominal ground level of the city.

All rights reserved. The setting of the story is an alternate Earth of the future, which was on the brink of complete destruction due to the appearance of a certain red star, which caused a giant change on the planet.

Government of all countries that decided to unite in the face of unknown enemy started to evacuate people to space bases to save civilization and find new home for survivors. The project was very popular due to the fact that an experienced team of artists worked on its visualization. They were able to give life to every animated slide used during the narrative of a rather lengthy story involving not only ordinary humans, but also genetically modified ones called “felixes” and created on special space stations to help a dying humanity.

The central character in the story is a girl named Zion – the most perfect “felix”, she is under the constant guard of the armed forces that do not want to lose the precious fruit of their experiments. A girl wants to help people, but she is not allowed to leave the research center on the island.

Cities are composed of huge skyscrapers built upon older skyscrapers, and never cease to expand upwards. Wealthy people live high above the suburbs, but even there the sunlight is still a rare sight. You’ll come through truly fantastic sets like an old ‘Gotham’ church flanked with monstrous derelict ‘underground’ skyscrapers though they are not really underground per say.

The final set is simply overwhelming. The sound department is utterly superb. The 3D audio environment provides tremendous feelings of oppression and desolation. Right from the breathtaking title screen, I knew this game would be special as far as sound climax is concerned. But the most important feature is the gameplay, and Project Eden has plenty of it.

Fans of Lara Croft won’t be disappointed with this one. The mix between the action and riddle sequences is even more balanced than in Tomb Raider. Despite the fact that the 3D engine especially the first person view can strongly recall Deus Ex, let me get this clear right now : adventure is at the core of Project Eden.

The twelve levels and their very long play time will keep you busy for a couple of months. As for the storyline, it is pure SF.

Apart from Nightlong and Nomad Soul, it has been a while since we got something as original as this terrible vision of our future. Whatever the megacorps want you to believe, you really don’t want to raise a family there Too bad this jewel was so underrated. It’s the best game I ever played in a very long time. It seems that original games like Project Eden or the splendid Ico on PS2 have a really hard time competing with all the lousy FPS and beat’em all games proliferating out there.

Do you like adventure, exploration and sound climax? Give Project Eden a try, I’m sure you won’t regret it. There are only a few titles I have kept from my PC gaming days and this is one of them. I had a lot of fun with the story and puzzles. The ending was a let down but the rest of the game was pretty solid to me.

Since these other reviews are based on old demos only I decided to add a few stars to balance out the over all rating. Project Eden promised a mouthful.

Core Design, of the Tomb Raider fame, had the potential to make a new, amazing game with a solid basis for gameplay, story, and graphics. Yet in an industry recently filled with flukes, Project Eden can only be thrown in the pile. Eden is essentially a boring game.

The story is incredibly cliche, and in which I thought it could have thrived on its premise, Core Design fail to create anything spectacular with its four main characters. The setting of a futuristic utopia reaching the heaven is another feature which has been re-hashed innumerable times. Ultimately, while Core Design may have had something fresh, we only received a canned story. Graphics is another touchy subject for the linear 3D-accelerated game.

Project Eden uses a good array of colors to keep the eyes pleased, but still the visuals accumulate to anything above average. Project Eden’s gameplay has been attempted before but has ultimately shown no glory. Each character has their own attributes and depend on each other to accomplish the level. Yet, Core Design creates several bad gameplay systems in the combat, interface, and level design sections to really achieve mediocrity.

Combat is sketchy, especially since players have unlimited lives and the friendly artificial intelligence is measly. Navigating through the interface is frustrating, since it requires the mouse pointer to be directly on letters instead of in the general vicinity you’ll notice when you play this game.

And level design is trippy, where I even had to resort to cheating to pass through a part since Core Design failed to give me any more power. I never cheat in games, only when it is imperative to use to advance.

Nonetheless, Core Design makes Project Eden into nothing special. The story is cliche, where it develops into a predictable plot that is more funny than dramatic.
